If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and both the loved and the unloved have borne him sons, but the first-born is the son of the unloved one— 16when he wills his property to his sons, he may not treat as first-born the son of the loved one in disregard of the son of the unloved one who is older. 17Instead, he must accept the first-born, the son of the unloved one, and allot to him a double portion of all he possesses; since he is the first fruit of his vigor, the birthright is his due.
And Esau came in from the field, etc. (XXV, 29). R. Phinehas said in R. Levi's name, and the Rabbis in R. Simon's name, You find that Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years. Isaac, one hundred and eighty. God withheld these five years from Abraham's life because Esau outraged a betrothed maiden and committed murder. Thus it says, and Esau came in from the field, which means that he violated a betrothed maiden, as it says, But if the man find the damsel that is betrothed in the field, and the man take hold of her, and lie with her (Deut. XXII, 25); while and he was faint signifies that he committed murder, as in the verse, For my soul fainteth before the murderers (Jer. IV, 31). R. Berekiah and R. Zakkai the elder said: He also committed theft, as you read, If thieves came to thee, if robbers (shodede) by night (Obad. I, 5). 2 Said the Holy One, blessed be He: I made a promise to Abraham, assuring him, But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age (Gen. XV, 15): is this a good old age when he sees his grandson practising idolatry, immorality, and murder! Better that he quit this world in peace! ' Hence it is written, For Thy loving-kindness is better than life (Ps. LXIII, 4).
16. And Rebecca took the choicest garments of Esau her elder son (ib. 15): viz. those which he had coveted from Nimrod, as it is written, The wicked coveteth the prey of evil men (Prov. XII, 12).
Which were with her in the house - in these he used to attend upon his father. R. Simeon b. Gamliel said, All my lifetime I attended upon my father, yet I did not do for him a hundredth part of the, service which Esau did for his father. I used to attend upon my father in soiled garments and go out in the street in clean ones; but when Esau attended on his father, he attended upon him in royal robes, for, said he, nought but royal robes befits my father's honor.
Midrash Rabba Bereshit 65: 17
And she gave the savory food (XXVII, 17). She accompanied him as far as the door and then said to him: Thus far I owed thee [my aid]; from here onward thy Creator will assist thee.
Origen, Homilies on Genesis and Exodus, Genesis Homily X and Genesis 24:16
Just as Christ is said to be the husband of the soul, to whom the soul is married when it comes to faith, so also, contrary to this, he who is also called "an enemy" when "he oversows tares among the wheat" is called the husband to whom the soul is married when it turns away to faithlessness. It is not sufficient, therefore, for the soul to be pure in body; it is necessary also that this most wicked man "has not known it." For it can happen that someone may possess virginity in body, and knowing that most wicked man, the devil, and receiving darts of concupiscence from him in the heart destroy the purity of the soul. Because, therefore, Rebecca was a virgin "holy in body and spirit", for this reason the Scripture doubles her praise and says: "She was a virgin; a man had not known her."
