Women in the Book of Judges I

Woman at a window

An ivory inlay, originally set into a piece of furniture, was discovered in Namrud in Iraq, but apparently was made in Phonecia.  It portrays the Canaanite motif of a woman looking out of a window.  Her Egyptian coiffure is evidence of additional cultural influences. The balustrade above which she watches is composed of a series of stylized palm capitals.
